Apple picking season is here! I used to look forward to apple picking every year as a child and now I have just as much fun watching my little ones run through the orchards, laugh on the bumpy hayrides and search for the perfect apples. And let's not forget the fresh pressed apple cider and hot, delicious cider donuts! Many farms also have family-friendly entertainment and activities including live music, bounce houses, and more. Apple picking is also a great farm-to-table teaching opportunity and a wonderful way to ease out of summer.

Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm - Yorktown Heights

I have fond childhood memories of this farm! Check in to get your bags and picking poles (available to rent) and catch a hayride to the apple orchard. The farm offers over a dozen varieties of apples available at different times throughout the season, so be sure to check their schedule to see when your favorites are ripe and ready for picking. They also offer pumpkin picking starting October 15th and if you're already thinking about the holiday season, the farm also offers Choose-and-Cut Christmas trees starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Their bake shop and markets offer freshly baked goods including pies, cookies, apple cider doughnuts, strudel sticks, snacks, candy and country-themed and seasonal crafts and gifts.
Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard - North Salem
130 Hardscrabble Road
Formerly known as Outhouse Orchards, this family-run farm allows visitors to pick their own apples daily throughout the season. On weekends through October, enjoy "Fall Festivals" which offer lots of entertainment for kids including farm animals, bouncy castles, hayrides and more. The farm also offers homemade doughnuts, cider, produce and fresh eggs. If you have a four-legged friend, bring them along as leashed dogs are welcome on festival grounds and in the orchard.
Stuart's Farm - Granite Springs
62 Granite Springs Road
The oldest apple farm in Westchester County, Stuart's Farm spans over 200 acres and offers 9 different varieties of apples as well as pumpkin fields. On weekends, enjoy a hayride that passes through the orchards and pumpkin fields to the crest of a hill, offering gorgeous views of the fall foliage. The original barn now serves as a fruit and produce stand. You can also enjoy fresh muffins, scones, pies, donuts and apple cider, all baked on the farm.
The Orchards of Concklin - Pomona

This farm offers a variety of apples throughout the season. In addition to apple picking, they offer kid friendly fun including a haunted house, bounce house and Jurassic Adventure. Check their schedule to find out when your favorite apples will be available for picking. Don't forget their farm store and bakery with tons of goodies to choose from.
Dr. Davies Farm - Congers

Dr. Davies offers 4,000 trees spread over 35 acres, weekend hayrides drawn by tractor trailers and a market that offers homemade doughnuts and fresh pressed cider, along with pumpkins, veggies and more. Bring cash as credit cards and ATM cards are not accepted.
