Chelsea Dry Goods – Hastings-on-Hudson
2 Main Street
Chelsea Dry Goods has a limited selection of children's clothing, carrying attire only for infants and women. However, you will find such a unique, wonderful selection of baby wear that you will be very glad you skipped the mall. The simple charm of this "general store" is undeniable. It's like a sweeter, more darling and more original version of Urban Outfitters. Everything about this place has a local, one-of-kind and special feel. There is also a tremendous selection of distinctive and carefully selected toys, accessories and knickknacks. I received a rather long list of suggestions for Santa from my older children while I browsed cute things for the baby.

Always the Children - Chappaqua
14 S. Greeley Avenue
The best way to describe this shop is "full service". They carry clothes for infants through tweens/teens and what you don't see can probably be procured by the exceptional staff. Clients (some celebrity) line up for the pre-sale and essentially do the ordering from the line sheet alongside the owners so that many items never even rest on the shelves here. Custom services include t-shirts with your child's name or Mom & Daughter versions of the same item. The overall feeling here is rock & roll California meets European funky. They take great pride in offering cool and fun styles that you won't find elsewhere. In addition to clothes, you'll find children's furniture, bedding accessories and more.

Fierson's - Bronxville
122 Kraft Avenue
Fierson's offers a staid, preppyish line of beautiful and long-lasting children's wear. Much of what they offer is for formal occasions, but they have some lounge-around-the-boathouse options as well. And do they know their customers! Nestled to one side of the shop amidst the velvet Christmas gowns for girls is a nice little assortment of resort wear, in case you're planning to skip town for a warmer climate! Every item in this tiny shop is gorgeous, looks hand-selected, and harkens back to an era of craftsmanship.

Once Upon a Child - Somers
80 Route 6, Baldwin Place
This shop has a very fun feel to it. There is music playing and children are encouraged to play with the toys also occupying the store for sale. Sizing runs the range - infant through youth 16/18 - but inventory is constantly changing so it's never the same store twice. Though not a conventional consignment store (they purchase items on the spot for cash or trade and are more or less selective depending on their current inventory), Once Upon a Child offers a unique way to recycle and trade gently used children's clothes that are in excellent condition. There are some amazing finds here and it sort of operates as a trading post, so it may be a great option as your children age of if you suddenly find yourself with a pile of clothing they received as gifts and didn't have a chance to wear.

Maxime & Friends - Larchmont
150 Larchmont Avenue
This charming boutique just celebrated its grand opening in October and has enjoyed a warm welcoming. You'll find stylish European clothing and accessories for newborns up to age 6 in a chic, bright and open shop centrally located on Larchmont Avenue.

Gingerbread Kidz - Scarsdale
1 Chase Road
We mentioned this lovely shop in our post on places to shop for kids in Scarsdale. They sell carefully chosen, high quality goods for babies to teens. My kids love the ultra trendy feel of the store and I love that the clothes are durable and last!

Miller's Toy Store - Mamaroneck
335 Mamaroneck Avenue
Don't let the name fool you. Miller's has a great selection of kids' clothes and shoes, ranging from infant to tween, in addition to a fantastic selection of toys, books and bikes. As we mentioned in our post on local toy shops in Westchester, Miller's has fantastic costumer service, a loyalty program where you can earn discounts on purchases and FREE gift wrapping year round.
