Thanksgiving Cheats: Where Westchester Families Can Score Some (or All!) of Thanksgiving Dinner

11/3/15 - By Christi O'Donnell

Turkey Day is coming—and we all know what that means! More appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts served up in one meal than most people are normally able to cook in a week.

No knife skills skills? No time? No kitchen? No problem! Westchester is full of shops and restaurants ready, willing and waiting to put that turkey dinner (or vegetarian alternative!) together for you. Pick up or delivery, precooked or just prepared, this list has something for every level of commitment.

And if you're already thinking about how to stay active this time of year, check out our post on turkey trots and fun runs happening throughout Westchester. And don't forget our November GoList for more fun events happening all month long!

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Coles Market - Montrose
2147 Albany Post Road
This small family-run fine foods meat/seafood/deli shop has you covered. Their holiday menu has a mouth watering array appetizers, main courses (including seafood) and sides to get you going. While everything is good, the stuffed potatoes are AMAZING; if you’re only going to outsource one item, let it be those. They come in 3 options—sweet, bacon and cheddar and sour cream and chive—so there’s definitely something to please everyone.

River City Grille - Irvington
6 South Broadway
For a fantastic feast that serves up to 15, check out River City Grille’s all-encompassing Thanksgiving Day Menu. It leads off with their butternut squash soup (which is delicious!) and includes a free-range Bell and Evans turkey, two kinds of pie and multiple sides. The dinner is sold as a package only, but River City told us it will do substitutions.

Plates - Larchmont
121 Mrytle Boulevard
Raw? Roasted? Brined? 24 lbs? Done, done, done and done when you choose “Turkey Take Out” from Plates. Looking for more than just turkey? Sign up for an entire “Thanksgiving Feast To-Go” and you’ll get a 14-16 lb. free-range Misty Knolls turkey with all the trimmings and dessert to feed a crowd. Just pick up, plate and serve.

Epstein’s Kosher Deli - Hartsdale
387 North Central Avenue
Start with a whole roast turkey. Add a soup, stuffing and gravy, two sides, a dessert, cranberry compote and freshly baked rolls and Thanksgiving dinner is done! All meals are Kashruth certified and ready to go by noon on Thanksgiving Day. Each package serves a minimum of 8 people and it’s easy to add on additional servings.

Susan Lawrence Catering - Chappaqua
26 N Greeley Avenue
Mix and Match with Susan Lawrence Catering’s extensive Thanksgiving Feast Menu and you’re guaranteed one of the best dinners in town. Want to serve your pumpkin soup appetizer inside a hollow roasted pumpkin? Susan Lawrence will help you do that. Handmade stuffing that started as a real loaf of bread? Check. Cornucopia Basket Cake with Chocolate Twigs and Marzipan Fruit? Seriously. Yes. They have that. The only thing you’ll have to do is the dishes (well, and roast the turkey…but they supply the directions!).

Balducci’s - Scarsdale
15 Palmer Avenue
Choose one from Column A, 3 from Column B, 2 from Column C, 1 from Column D, and 1 from Column E… pick a few add-ons at the end, hit “check-out” and dinner is ready to go. Turkeys from Balducci’s can come with an apricot-rosemanry glaze or roasted with herbs, and they can be picked up ready to cook or ready to eat—chef’s choice. While you’re there, pick up an appetizer party platter and a cornucopia center piece, and all of your planning is done with plenty of time to watch the big game or catch a quick nap.

Fairway - Pelham
847 Pelham Parkway
Want choices? How about five pages of choices? Fairway’s Thanksgiving Menu is enough to make a home cook’s head spin. The easy option is to go with their standard menu—most of the choices have already been made. They also offer a dizzying array of sides and every pie imaginable, so you should be able to please both picky Uncle Mort and suspicious Grandma Sally. A kosher menu is also available.

Stew Leonard's - Yonkers
1 Stew Leonard Drive
Who needs the whole bird? If your dinners come down to who wants white meat and who wants dark meat, Stew Leonard's has taken the carving out of the equation and can supply your friends and family with expertly roasted trays of breast meat and thigh meat without the hassle of finding that extra large knife once a year. Of course, if presentation is important, there are also whole bird packages (ready to roast or all ready to eat) and meat-free entrée-sized cheese lasagnas, along with all of the traditional sides, appetizers and desserts.

Whole Foods - White Plains and Yonkers
110 Bloomingdale Road, White Plains
Ridge Hill Boulevard, Yonkers
If you’re looking for a vegan Thanksgiving Dinner in Westchester, Whole Foods is the obvious choice. Alongside all of the traditional Thanksgiving Day options, Whole Foods has an affordable and delicious vegan meal that can be purchased by the person and includes an 8 oz. stuffed Gardein roast, butternut squash puree, green beans with almonds, mushroom gravy and cranberry sauce.
