My Honest Review of Stitch Fix for Kids and a Discount on Your First Order

Stitch Fix is an online styling and shopping service that delivers personalized kids clothes right to your door. Here’s my honest review after trying it for my daughter.
Keeping up with my ever-growing kid’s wardrobe sometimes feels like a part-time job, so when I heard there was an opportunity to try out Stitch Fix–a digital styling service that delivers a box of hand-picked children’s clothing right to your door–I jumped at the chance. One online Style Quiz later, my 9-year-old daughter’s first personalized “Fix” had arrived at our home.
Read on for my honest Stitch Fix review, including how it works, what came in our box, and whether the service is worth it.
What is Stitch Fix?
Stitch Fix is an online styling service available for kids ages 2-18–and adults too! It starts with a detailed Style Quiz where you and your kiddo can share favorite colors and patterns (purple, please), most-worn items, dislikes (no glitter, thanks), sizes, budget, and any other personal preferences (must be cartwheel-friendly). You can even thumbs up or thumbs down sample outfits, which I highly recommend to best convey your child’s personal style.
Based on your answers, a Stitch Fix stylist (a real person, and not just a bot!) hand-selects 10 items and ships them your way. You can keep what your child likes, and return or exchange the rest. Opt to order one-off “Fixes” as needed, or choose automatic deliveries every few weeks or months. If you find a brand or item you love, you can also purchase individual items on the Stitch Fix website.
How much does Stitch Fix cost?
For a limited time, you can try Stitch Fix for FREE! Your styling fee will be waived on your first order, plus you’ll get $20 off the items you choose to keep.
From there, you’ll pay $20 for each box, which is ultimately credited towards the items you hold on to. Stylists try their best to send items within the budget you choose in the Style Quiz, with kids' offerings starting at around $12. If you keep five items or more from a shipment, you’ll get a 20% discount. Shipping, returns, and exchanges are always free of charge.
What comes in a Stitch Fix box for kids?
Each box includes 10 items, ranging from basics to seasonal items to shoes. Of course, if you include any special requests in the Style Quiz–like outfits for a beach vacation or options for basketball practice–your “Fix” will cater to those preferences. Stitch Fix stocks more than 1,000 brands, including Lucky, Adidas, Roxy, and Nike. You might also notice a few of their exclusive labels, designed based on client feedback.
My daughter’s first Fix included a pale purple knit cardigan, a lavender pointelle top, a printed wrap dress, a layered dress, a striped long-sleeve shirt, two pairs of wide-leg jeans, and three pieces of activewear—a top, a quarter-zip pullover, and pants. Not only did it match our request for cool, but comfy clothes for school, but the styles and color scheme made the clothes work like a capsule wardrobe, which is kind of a dream for busy mornings.
How easy are returns and exchanges with Stitch Fix?
Returns and exchanges are free and easy. Your Stitch Fix dashboard clearly displays the items in your “Fix,” so selecting what you want to return or exchange is pretty seamless. Your “Fix” also arrives with a prepaid return envelope. Note that you have three days to decide what to keep, but you can request an extension of the try-on window if you expect to need additional time.
Our Honest Experience with Stitch Fix for Kids
My daughter and I both love to shop, but crowded stores, messy racks, and long fitting room lines are a no-go for us–especially when we’re short on time (which is most of the time). So, Stitch Fix was a win in that it brought the shopping experience right to our living room. Our items were really nicely wrapped and packaged, making it fun for my daughter to unbox her “Fix,” and ten items felt like a serious haul to her. She oohed and ahhed her way through the box and, before I knew it, she was doing a full fashion show (getting her to actually try things on is usually like pulling teeth).
I was impressed by how well most of the items reflected our Style Quiz, which was more detailed than I expected, allowing me to veto all graphic tees and leave a note about sizing up on items my daughter can continue to wear into the next season. The knit cardigan was an immediate favorite and I was blown away by the green wide-leg jeans that fit more flawlessly than any other pair we’ve tried on in a store. While we didn’t hold on to all of the activewear, it was soft and comfortable. The pants were definite keepers–and, amazingly, the right length for my very tall kid. I loved how empowered my daughter felt to put what she loved in her “keep” pile and thoughtfully set aside what didn’t quite feel right for her.
The Stitch Fix dashboard couldn’t have been easier to use and, although we did need more than three days to make decisions about our order, the return process was simple. I appreciated being asked for detailed feedback on the fit and style of the items we kept and returned, which will inform what comes in our next “Fix.” I imagine the shipments get more spot on as your Stitch Fix stylist gathers more information about your child’s sizing and personal style. I also loved the personal note from our stylist, explaining that all of the pants were thoughtfully selected for my daughter’s latest love of cartwheeling.
Final Verdict on Stitch Fix Kids
Stitch Fix is sure to save you time and stress–whether you or your kiddo don’t like to shop or there just aren’t enough hours in the day. It’s an easy and efficient option for a child who’s practical and not too picky when it comes to clothes, and a fun way for fashion-loving kids to try new things and explore their personal style. For my daughter, it was a great way to do a quick wardrobe refresh during a busy time of year–plus, now we’ve found a new denim brand we love and we just might order more of those soft activewear pants.
Would we do Stitch Fix again? Yes! After returning a few items and sharing our feedback, we’ll give it another go to see if we can get our hands on a few more staples for the new season ahead. Would I recommend it? It’s a no-brainer to give it a try for FREE and see if it’s a good fit for your family!
